Apples, Pears, Lemons and Strawberries

We are always on the look out for new productive plants for the garden at Potager and every winter add to the fruit trees, choosing the best shaped like the Damson in the boule pitch or the fan trained peach on the courtyard wall.
Recently we have cleared away more old nursery stock from the lands previous use.
Mark and I chose from Cornish Apple Trees at Peranwell this year. Wanting something different, as usual and something special for the cafe I am excited to say the ochard now has new arrivals. Six 'Sops in Wine' a pink fleshed apple will make wonderful pink juice.
Apple ' Red Devil' has attractive deep scarlet skins, red tinted flesh with a delicious strawberry like flavour.
Choosing with help of the owner, grafting expert, Shane Kneebone who suggested a tree he had bought to propagate from, a 'Lemon Pippin' he quickly pruned off the propagating material for grafting onto root stocks. The fruits not only have a strong lemon flavour but also a lemon shape, how cool is that!
A pair of pears and we were done.
On your next visit to Potager serach out our newbees and look out for them on the menu too!
