Flying Again

Everything seemed somehow familiar but not quite real, dreamlike maybe. Peter and Dan after some years away from behind the counter returned last week end to cries of "looks just like the old days " from Rory. Saffa arranged flowers and swept the floor as, like retired pilots, we tentatively checked the controls for 11 am lift off. (Those early days we opened at 10 and people would be awaiting our arrival at 9.45 when all the baking was done at home)
What a flight, passengers came and went, the couple from Germany who had seen us on arte TV, the walkers, cyclists and people on annual pilgrimage. The mothers and sons eating and battling for victory on the table tennis table or doing big picture jig-saws. Regulars and first timers on their first day of their first Cornish holiday. People wanting to buy tickets for a music event to be held in the garden on Sunday. All were quiet and complimentary about the garden and food and made us feel really part of somewhere very special. The wood burner was lit for 'mother' who was feeling the Autumn chill while the boys from Margate explored for chickens to see where their scrambled eggs had come from.
Cooking only from the garden, apples and squash, tomatoes and potatoes it was great to see Peter return from the veg patch with a bunch of soily carrots.
See you soon in "the most peaceful garden to sit in " to quote a visitor, we will be flying Potager next week end too and are open until the 10th of October.
