Potager on televison...

Potager has recently been seen on ARTE television in Germany for the second time in a documentary titled "Landstrraume" (country dreams). The director Kristian Kahler first visited Potager in 2006 and filmed a documentary focussing on food in Cornwall and returned last summer to make a follow-up program. On the day the crew were filming a German family happened to be visiting the garden having seen the first program on tv and ended up appearing in the second! Click here to see a few short clips

We've had a few enquiries for the recipe for Dan's nettle beer (taken from Wild Food by Roger Philips). Here it is:

100 nettle tops (with leaves 4-6)
12 litres (2 ½ gallons)
1 ½ kg (3lb) sugar
50g cream of tartar
15g brewers or beer yeast (available from all homebrew shops)

Once you have your nettles, give them a quick wash and place in a big pot with 12 litres of water, bring to the boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
Strain the liquid into another pan/bucket and discard the nettles
Bring the liquid to the boil again and add the sugar and cream of tartar, simmer and stir until dissolved.

Remove from the heat, transfer into your brewing vessel/bucket and allow to cool to blood temperature- this may take some time… then add the yeast and stir well.
Cover the bucket in muslin and bottle after 24 hours
it is ready to drink a week after bottling
