The Potager Garden is emerging on a four and a half acre site wild and overgrown but abundant with trees and shrubs which are a reminder of its former life as a garden nursery.
Located close to the village of Constantine, five miles west of Falmouth, the site is set amidst the gentle rural landscape which surrounds the beautiful Helford river estuary. The exotic gardens of Trebah and the Spring gardens of Glendurgan are nearby and we hope that over the coming years we may develop the Potager to become a further stop on the gardeners tour of the area.
These early stages however, are as equally exciting in the gardens development as the overgrowth (left) reveals areas of the site which in the future will give the gardens its form and maturity. An area once planted as nursery stock for fruit trees, for example, once cleared and cared for will provide the potential for a beautiful orchard.
We hope that over this winter and the following few seasons to run working weekends for groups of volunteers to come and participate in the making of the new garden. In return we will be offering bed, breakfast and the chance to get together in the evening over a hearty communal meal. As well as being a big help to the project we hope that people enjoy the opportunity to meet fellow gardeners and to be part of something which we hope will give pleasure to many in the future.
